Magic Wheelchair: Bumblebee
In early 2019 I got a phone call from the Maker Effect Foundation to ask if I could make a challenging project happen in just three weeks. In that short time we built a super detailed, interactive, modular costume to conceal a wheelchair and highlight its occupant. With mobility and communication challenges, the young man in this chair had a range of needs to consider. In a collaborative effort, I developed a concept to wrap the wheelchair in a decorative shroud and incorporate lights, sound, video, a MIDI keyboard, and remote controls. I lead the fabrication team and coordinated with the electronic specialists. We revealed the final product to the family in front of a large crowd.
